WHAT MIGHT CHANGE IN LISBON ON JULY 16?

Sunday, July 16 Cardinal Manuel Clemente of Lisbon, Portugal, turns 75. That is the age at which a prelate must turn in his resignation to the Pope. The Pope may accept it or delay it. However, on July 9, the Pope gave Lisbon a second cardinal. So we ask: As of July 16, will cardinal-elect Americo Aguiar step in as Cardinal Clemente steps out?

Because Lisbon is the host to the 2023 World Youth Day, the Pope might not accept Clemente’s resignation until after the August event (if he accepts at all).

An interesting hypothesis as it is extremely rare that a diocese has two living cardinals.
