RIP LEE SOUTH: THANK YOU FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL LIFE!
I had an enormous shock several hours ago when I learned that a very dear friend, one of the Lord’s special daughters and a colleague at EWTN, died unexpectedly – Lee South!
I immediately reacted to the news sent in an email to EWTN staff around the globe with the following reflection:
“Oh my word! I am devastated beyond description! I totally remember the first time I met Lee and Ned at a family celebration at EWTN when I was a new member of the EWTN team, having just been named the first EWTN Rome bureau chief. Even though Lee and I did not see each other that often over the years, whenever we were together, it was like no time had been lost since our last visit. She was one of the most loving, caring, generous, thoughtful persons I have ever met… Always there for other people, always ready to help out, always ready to help soothe feelings of sadness or unhappiness. My own heart stopped beating for a second when I saw her name in the subject line of the email! I will be spending coming hours and days trying to wrap my mind around the idea I will not see her again, that EWTN will be deprived of her bright spirit and beautiful soul! Condolences to Lee’s family, to all of us! Joan”
Lee’s wonderful husband Ned died about a month after we all met at the 2006 Family Celebration – the 25th anniversary of the founding of EWTN by Mother Angelica. A huge shock for all!
I could spend a lot more ink writing about Lee but will let my heartfelt, spontaneous words express my grief. Condolences are pouring in from around the globe from colleagues, so many beautiful words that paint an exquisite picture of a much-loved colleague and friend!
